Parkway Shanghai Centre Medical & Dental Centers
In the doctor’s consultation, which will cost between 1,300rmb and 2,000rmb, the doctor will determine what tests you need. The testing is an additional charge. Most insurances don’t cover STD testing, so check with you provider. If needed, Parkway is known in the past to use the urine testing method. Parkway has many locations around the city so you can pick one that is close to you, though some clinics are closed on Sundays.
Columbia Clinic
The Columbia Clinic on Nanjing Xi Lu in Jing’an has nice English service. They run a package for 1,500rmb for men and women. The flat fee includes the doctor’s consultation and tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, herpes and syphilis. Most insurances do not cover STD testing. New unfortunate updates for men; the previous urine test are now replaced with swab testing, due to lab requirements. The results are emailed to you in 7-10 days. Columbia’s opening hours are 8:30am to 6pm daily. You will need to make an appointment in advance, and its suggested to go in the morning.
Huashan Hospital (Jing'an)
When we went to the public hospital Huashan, it cost 390rmb not including the HPV test. Males will still find the urethral swab. Results come back staggered from 1-hour AIDS test, to two weeks for herpes. You will need to go in person to get the results. Most large top-tier public hospitals will be comparable.
Jiahui Health (Jing'an)
STD tests at Jiahui Clinic in Jing’an cost 1,200rmb for men and women, including the consultation. If you want to upgrade to include a gynecological exam and pap smear, women can get the 2,250rmb package. They check for chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis B and C, HIV, HPV, and herpes. For men, a urine test is available for the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests. Result can be viewed after seven days on their WeChat mini app or sent by email. Last year when we went there was a rapid 30-minute chlamydia test. Appointments are required for STD testing. Jiahui Hospital in Xuhui is now providing treatment for STDs common and obscure at their new Sexual Health Clinic.
Shanghai Skin Disease and STD Clinic
Shanghai’s special STD hospital in Changning has been popular due to lower than private hospital prices and smaller crowds compared to other general public hospitals. We went last year and paid 780rmb, including a 25rmb doctor’s consultation fee. Another major selling point used to be anonymity, but now your passport and phone number are required when registering. The full set price from last year is 730rmb, or if you want to order a la carte the HPV test is 300rmb, herpes 120rmb, HIV is 60rmb, chlamydia is 60rmb, and gonorrhea is 30rmb. The male testing method is drawing blood and a swab up the urethra to test secretion. Results need to be picked up in-person 3-5 days afterward.
