[How To]: Get Your Tax Statements

Here's the somewhat painless process of getting your tax records for taxes paid in China...

You might find yourself in a situation where you'll have to prove that you've paid taxes in China, especially when you return to one of those countries where you pay taxes either in China or your home country, but not both.

Long story short, first you need to visit the tax office in person to get your registration code, and then you'll need to input that code into a specific app to access your tax statement.

Here is a step-by-step guide:

1
Get the Registration Code

Chinese citizens can obtain their tax statements by downloading the official tax application and logging in. However, if you are a foreign national, you will need to visit the tax bureau where the company you were employed with initially registered. For instance, if your employing company is registered in the Changning district, you should head to the Changning district tax bureau.

Even if you've worked for multiple companies, you only need to visit one tax bureau, specifically the one associated with your most recent employer. Remember to bring your passport and a photocopy of it when you go.

Once you've completed all the necessary procedures, you'll receive a document that includes your registration code, as illustrated in the picture.

Get Your Tax Statement

This is the page you'll proceed to next. If you're using your passport to log in, you'll need the registration code you got from the tax bureau in the previous step. The screenshot here is from a Chinese citizen, so there's no need for a registration code.

Select the desired time period for your tax statement, swipe the white button to the right, and click the blue button to go to the next step.

Your statement should be ready in just a few seconds. You can click on 预览 (preview) to see a preview of your statement and 保存 (save) to download it.
