This year Dulwich College International launched Ignite: Switzerland, a pioneering 12-week experiential learning program where Dulwich College Shanghai Year 9 students are able to spend a term in the stunning Swiss Alps!
How many other schools out there can send your child to Switzerland for a term? Not too many.
Ignite: Switzerland is another example of our ongoing commitment to delivering a student-centred, holistic education that enables the students in our care to discover and develop their full potential.
Dulwich students who attend Ignite: Switzerland have the unique opportunity to spend 12 weeks in the south-eastern region of Switzerland; leading their own expedition into the world of learning, discovering their own potential, and reflecting on the world around them in an awe-inspiring natural environment.
This exciting opportunity takes place in the Hochalpines Institut Ftan AG (HIF), a member of the Dulwich College International family of schools. Located in the Lower Engadin valley near Ftan, three hours from Zurich and two hours from Milan, Ignite gives students an exceptional experience of indoor and outdoor learning, where they will encounter new challenges and discover their passions, bringing out the very best version of themselves.
In close proximity to the southern alpine peaks and the Swiss National Park, students will become stewards of the natural environment, inspired to explore its wildlife, mountains, forests, pastures, and rivers.
Our first group of students from Dulwich College Shanghai just arrived in early April!
Much more than just 12-weeks away from home with life-changing outdoor learning experiences, Ignite: Switzerland also provides a rigorous academic program that allows students to seamlessly continue their academic progression from Year 9 through to the commencement of the IGCSE program.
Academic Program
The core academic program ensures that all students study English, Maths, Science, and a language to the same standard as Dulwich Colleges Shanghai Puxi. All subjects will be aligned to, and fully meet, the criteria of the Year 9/IGCSE curriculum.
Students also have the opportunity to select 2 electives to study in depth for 12 hours a week for 12 weeks, providing a personal pathway for students to develop their passions or try something new.
Their learning journey culminates in a Passion Project, which they will share with their fellow students and teachers in the program, and with their parents and classmates when they return to their respective colleges.
The Passion Project encourages students to practice and strengthen their approaches to learning (ATL) skills, to consolidate prior and subject-specific learning, and to develop an area of personal interest.
Outdoor Learning Program
The centerpiece of the Ignite program is the Outdoor Learning Program. With the Swiss National Park and the southern alpine peaks on their doorstep, the students can walk from the school out into the most beautiful of surroundings. The alpine environment offers a variety of exciting, challenging, and easily accessible sports and activities for all.
Seasonal Sport Program
The Seasonal Sport Program has been developed around the seasons, taking advantage of what different weather can offer and ensuring safety at all times.
