So, why Shanghai Jia Tong University?

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was founded in Shanghai, China, in 1896. It is a century-old university ranked 47th in the 2021 QS World University Rankings. They provide small-size classes with less than 15 students each. During the semester, you'll be attending courses online without leaving home, and having real-time interaction with teachers in class. Every now and then, they will organize offline events and activities for students to participate in.

In the upcoming semester, they offer 4 courses for Comprehensive Chinese depending on your level, one of the courses is designed for beginners to help students pass HSK 2, while others are for intermediate learners to help you pass HSK 3 and 4. If you've already passed HSK 4, Business Chinese will be ideal for you to develop and expand business-related language skills. Scroll down for full details.

Class Descriptions:

Business Chinese

The program is designed for foreigners who have already worked in China and foreign students who hope to do business with the Chinese in the future. The applicants shall pass New HSK Level 4 or have an equivalent Chinese level. Business Chinese, as Chinese for Specific Purpose, is a program aimed at developing language skills and communication arts for doing business in China. The program will help students expand business-related vocabulary, learn business-related sentences, and develop communication arts in various business situations. In addition, the program will help students improve language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) vital for business activities and learn Chinese business culture.

Comprehensive Chinese 1

It is designed for beginners. After learning, students can master 300-400 words and around 250 Chinese characters, have basic communication skills (shopping, order, travel, appointment, etc.), and pass HSK2.

Comprehensive Chinese 2:

It is designed for learners who have mastered 300-400 words and have basic communication skills (shopping, ordering, travel, appointment, etc.). After learning, students can master 800 vocabulary and around 500 Chinese characters, further communication skills (party, train travel, hotel stay, talk about weather, habits, and health, etc.), and pass HSK level 3.

Comprehensive Chinese 3 (unavailable in the fall semester):

It is designed for learners who have mastered 700-800 words and have further communication skills (gathering, traveling by train, staying in hotels, talking about the weather, habits, and health, etc.). After learning, students can master 1200 words and 700-800 Chinese characters, have complex communication skills (interview, bank business, wedding, gift giving, etc.), and pass HSK level 3.

Comprehensive Chinese 4:

It is designed for learners who have mastered 1200 words and have relatively complex communication skills (interview, bank business, wedding, gift giving, etc.). After learning Chinese, students can master about 2000 words and 1200 Chinese characters, have complex communication skills (description and evaluation of occupation, hobbies, characteristics of people and things, etc.), and pass HSK level 4.
