We're getting into the dog days of summer here with daytime food-centric events that spill out into sloppy evenings. FEAST is back for weekend two, and Post No Bills has another block party on. Lots of live Chinese indie music is happening at Mao Livehouse this weekend with their Summer Shape 2023 festival — two days of bands from all over China. For families, look to the stage. Two new kid-friendly stage events are happening this weekend to keep the little ones entertained.

LatinLand Festival

The self pounced "biggest Latin festival in the city" returns this weekend for two days from 2 to 10pm at Laowai Jie with a full program of Latin American culture, food, and entertainment. It's a family-friendly and pet-friendly event packed with activities for the whole family: "The best Latin American deejays in China will be spinning tunes all day, while a live band from South America will perform for the crowds. A Mega Zumba class will get everyone moving, and Samba shows from Brazil will bring the carnival spirit to Shanghai. Mexican and Colombian folklore dance will also be featured, highlighting the diverse cultures of Latin America. For the little ones, there is a dedicated kids area with clowns and a big bouncing castle. Parents can relax and enjoy the festival while their children have a blast.

Post No Bills hosts another one of their popular Saturday afternoon Block Parties featuring a BBQ take-over from Smokin' Hog, coming with a special menu. American classic rock a la Dolly Parton on the stereo slushies, summer vibes, cocktails, and more. Gets going early -- 11am till late.

The 2nd weekend of SOCIAL SUPPLY's 8th annual Food Festival. For two weekends they're celebrating Guilty Pleasures with chefs from restaurants all over Shanghai getting together to serve up unique stall foods for the weekend crowds. Feast returns for their second weekend with two days of activities, DJs, and innovative food and drink. Tickets available from 38rmb at the door and it's pay as you go. 1pm to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday. Venue is TX Huaihai at 523 Huaihai Lu.

Pie Society invites hottest saucey mama Red Alert (aka DJ Tina Turnatrick) to showcase her lip-smackingly good hot sauce, paired with a special food menu. Also the boss ladies Siesta and Tina Turnatrick will takeover the decks to DJ so you're really in for a treat. "Red Alert makes award-winning small batch craft hot sauces big on taste and filled with love. Creative flavors with an emphasis on quality ingredients is our hallmark. A bottle or jar of one of our signature flavors or our bold limited edition sauces is guaranteed to spice up your favorite meal." Do you love Snoopy too? The Peanuts-Gang-themed piano concert will be presented to you on June 2nd for the first time ever. Musicians from all over the world for more than half a century have performed Vince Guaraldi's "Peanuts" music in various forms. This concert features the best classics of Guaraldi's comic score for "Peanuts", such as the indispensable "Linus and Lucy", the unforgettable "Skating" and the warm and moving "Christmas Is Coming", in the form of double piano, four-hand combo, piano solo, etc., through Grandier's witty and vivid interpretations by live musicians. The personalities and experiences of Snoopy and other characters transform into a beautiful and vivid piece of music. The characters emerge as they move through the music, leading the audience into a world of love and friendship.

A 100% interactive musical experience where the audience is the show! Canadian performance troupe "Samajam" has introduced a show for families, creating musical happenings with the help of their audiences. After a successful tour, they're back in China and sweeping its audience through South America! The lively showleaders on stage will teach the audience basic music theory and lead parents and kids in percussive group performances with instruments provided.

Education is changing, perhaps faster than ever before. Parents who want a clear vision for their child's educational journey need an understanding about how education will evolve in the future. To help parents gain a global perspective on education, Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong is teaming up with KingLead to put on a unique forum featuring prominent leaders from both international and bilingual education addressing the Future of Education. Guided campus tours will also be offered for parents interested to learn more about Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong from noon-1pm. The Forum will be delivered in a mix of English and Chinese and will be facilitated to be accessible to all audiences. Maker Faire Shanghai 2023

Originating in California in 2006, Maker Faire is an immersive festival where you can join interactive workshops and hands-on activities. 3D printing, robotics, drones, and woodworking — really kid-friendly. After a year’s absence, it’s back at The Central. The previous 2021 event attracted more than 20,000 visitors. And it’s going to be bigger this year because they will do it two weekends back to back. The 2023 edition adds more science shows, entertainment, and a food market. So don’t worry if you get hungry. Kids under 1.2 meters have free access. Pets are not allowed during this event.

The Shanghai Center is a hosting their 5th annual art exhibition on the atrium level 4. All artworks on display are donated by artists. All sale proceeds will go to support corrective surgery for underprivileged Chinese children with congenital heart defects (CHD). Opening party on Friday 7-10pm, exhibition continues on Saturday 10am-6pm.

Nightlife and Clubbing

A rooftop celebration, dancing from sunshine until the moonlight. Drinks, culinary delights and subtle beats while "immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the city's premier daytime party destination!" Space Panda invites a well-known house music artist from Europe: Matthias Meyer -- DJ, Producer and Watergate / Liebe. Presale 158rmb; door 188rmb (including one drink).

With smash releases on L.I.E.S. and Knekelhuis, the artist is set to release his first full-length album on Dekmantel. Sideways

The second installment of Sideways features a special guest appearance by M.O.N.A. (China), a DJ and producer who’s gaining a reputation for throwing solid underground house and techno nights in and around Beijing. He’ll be joined by regulars Tomás (UK), DJ LOKE (Canada) and Shanyinde (UK). Expect to hear a good range of soulful, abstract and oddball beats. The party will also feature a visual installation by local artist VOEL. Start 10pm.

Live Music

Band of the moment, icy cool Wuhan glitch / coldwave / synthwave act Frankfurt Helmet, joins a bill, headlined by their German producer Byetone, making his Shanghai debut. He has been part of the groups Produkt and Signal and produced music solo under the moniker Byetone. In the wake of his own records, Byetone has also produced remixes for artists like Modeselektor and VCMG (Vince Clark and Martin L. Gore), as well as sound works for fashion designers like Rick Owens, Nina Ricci or NikeLab. An eveining of live electro and techno at the concrete club. 110rmb. Starts 9:30pm.

Summer Shape 2023

Two days and nights of rock, punk, and pop music as Shengjian Records hosts a bunch of bands coming from all over the country for the show. Biggest band on the bill is hard rock / punk act Chinese Football, headlining the show on the Friday night, and it's a grab bag of new and emerging acts for the rest of it. If you're looking to discover some new Chinese indie rock, it's one to check out for the weekend. Runs 5pm to 11pm on both nights. 300rmb at the door. 

Beijing noise rock act Sincerly Yours, Sergei stop into Yuyintang Park on their national tour, brining their brand of brooding psy rock-tinged post-everything-ness to the big stage on Saturday night. Support by local post-punk act JieChi. 150rmb at the door. Starts 8:30pm. 

Stage and Concerts

Julia Jive is coming to the Jazz Lincoln Center on June 2-3. Julia Jive, A Russian jazz vocalist with rich singing experience. She started her career in a quartet, specializing in all types of jazz standards and a cappella. She has appeared in international jazz festivals and concerts in Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Italy. She has shared the stage with everything from jazz duos to large bands. There will be 2 shows each night. During busy nights,  please note to follow table arrangements by the venue.

Dark Circus/La Lune team is back at the Pearl with the new original show. The once-famous Grand Hotel, now a shadow of its former self, serves as a backdrop for the characters to unfold and develop as the plot progresses. The fact that the hotel has a reputation for changing people's behavior and revealing unpredictable sides to their personalities adds an air of intrigue and suspense to the story. It's no wonder that the guests who arrive with the hope of a peaceful weekend are in for a surprise. It will be interesting to see how the story develops and how the characters will be affected by the hotel's mysterious powers. The show starts from 7pm to 8.45pm. Ticket prices are 200rmb presale and 250rmb at the door.

The female-themed dance trilogy "20, 30, 40" is to be performed at the International Dance Center: “Jiani Huanhuan" directed by Wang Jiani and Wang Shuhuan, "GEN/Root" directed by Gong Xingxing and Zhan Li, and Nunu Kong "Udi". In this repertoire, dancers explore topics including fertility, gender identity, and age through choreography and rich body language representation. The show is for one weekend only. Ticket price ranges from 80 to 280rmb.

SpicyComedy is a renowned English stand-up comedy show in Shanghai that showcases some of the funniest local and traveling comedians. With shows almost every Saturday and Sunday at UCCA Edge, one of the trendiest contemporary art museums in Shanghai, audiences are in for an entertaining and unforgettable night. The event showcase selected features 5-6 talented English-language comedians, performing 8-15 minute sets each — guaranteed laughs and a great night on the town. Seating is first come, first serve, so head down early to get a good spot.

Founded in London in 1999, Affordable Art Fair is coming to Shanghai for the first time, introducing 47 galleries across the world, with seven special projects and several partners. Visitors will have a wide selection of collectible artworks whose prices ranged from 1,000 to 100,000rmb. The exhibition will start from June 8 to 11. The public opening date is June 10 and 11th.
