In an unexpected statement sent out to volunteers, sponsors and partners on Thursday evening, one of China's largest Pride organizations, ShanghaiPRIDE, has announced that it will be stopping all activities, citing concern for the safety of its members. A statement released on WeChat shortly thereafter confirms that they have cancelled future events and are "taking a break from scheduling any future events." The non-profit community organization has been promoting diversity and the LGBTQ community for 12 years, and is best known for its annual month long celebration, including the Pride Run, and the Pride Film Festival. There's no word at the moment about what comes next for the organizers. Frankly, we don't know how to deal with this information. Goddamn heartbreaking.
