Shanghai is gearing up to host a series of super important events in June that will delight art enthusiasts and collectors alike: the Affordable Art Fair Shanghai, Design Shanghai, and the Shanghai Art Book Fair. From affordable artworks to innovative designs to exquisite, status symbol coffee table art books, these three major events promise an extraordinary showcase of creativity and artistic expression for you to visit and exclaim, 'Oooooo, very nice indeed!

As the name suggests, the Affordable Art Fair is an art fair with more affordable art. It's the first time it's being hosted in Shanghai with 47 art galleries and over 350 artists participating. On display and for sale will be various forms, such as paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, and digital art. AI art probably? The artworks are reasonably (and "reasonably") priced, ranging from a few thousand RMB to a maximum of 100,000 RMB.

The Affordable Art Fair will also collaborate with a broader range of curators and artists to present special projects, including new installation works from contemporary artist Zhang Ding, graffiti works from Dutch artist Selwyn Senatori, and a Young Talent Program featuring young Chinese artists.

Marking its 10th anniversary, Design Shanghai returns next weekend, packing the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center to the creaking rafters with bleeding-edge, fashion-conscious, inexplicable whacky things you can look at, sit on, sit in or wear on your body.

There will be three main halls: "Furniture & Lighting," "Living & Lifestyle," and "Kitchen & Bathroom," presenting over 600 global design brands from more than 40 countries. The event promises new and innovative design products, allowing visitors to explore the cutting-edge of the design world. This is the marquee event of the year for the design-aware.

Tickets: It's pretty expensive at 285rmb per person, if you plan on going, get the early bird tickets at 175rmb before June 7. Scan the code below for tickets. You can't buy good taste but you can pay to take pictures with it:

From Jun 9 until Jun 11

Shanghai Art Book Fair 2023

Established in 2017, the Shanghai Art Book Fair was initiated and organized by Banana Fish Bookstore, the first-ever bookstore in China dedicated to art books. Taking place from June 9 to June 11 this year, its goal still is to "offer a platform for communication among art book creators and enable young people in China to explore the world of art books."

The fair boasts an impressive lineup of 203 exhibitors, spanning a sprawling exhibition area of 1,500 square meters. Alongside themed exhibitions, attendees can look forward to art book lectures, public education workshops, and collaborative projects with the exhibitors.

But basically, it's a big marketplace where you can find big, beautiful art books to enhance your apartments, coffee tables, bookshelves, and lives. Which is quite alright.

To grab your tickets, scan the code below. A single-day pass is available for 40 RMB, and a three-day pass for 100 RMB.
