A tale of love, betrayal and redemption set amid joyous peasant celebrations and the pallid host of Wilis, as fascinating as they are ruthless: Giselle, the romantic ballet continues to attract audiences with its contrast between a sunny world and a dark and terrible kingdom inhabited by spirits. Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company will bring the unforgettable choreography of Coralli-Perrot to the stage in Shanghai, in the revival by Yvette Chauviré. Four shows only from March 21 to 24.

The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of the world's premier orchestras. On April 9 in Shanghai, the orchestra will present a series of music pieces from famous movies such as Schindler's List, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. Known for its exceptional and bold programming, the Vienna RSO is joined by the renowned conductor, pianist, and organist Wayne Marshall, who is hailed as the "voice" of Gershwin's music.

"Vincent and Me" is a new media choral concert jointly curated by the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the Italian audio-visual studio fuse*. Through the paintings of two iconic artists, Vincent van Gogh and Gustav Klimt, as well as the masterpieces of contemporary composers such as Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Mahler, and others, it applies painting algorithms and biometric data to connect the visual and sound, and the emotions of the artists and the audience, creating a full-sensory audio-visual experience that immerses the audience back to Europe in the late 19th century. The performance is centered around 13 works by composers of the same era as Van Gogh and Klimt: the works of Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Satie, Mahler, Strauss, Schoenberg, and others, creating a dialogue with the works of the two great artists and their historical backgrounds. In this performance, the audience is both a listener and a participant: the paintings become audible, and the music becomes visible. The show will be performed live by the Netherlands Chamber Choir, led by Peter Dijkstra, who has won the German Echo Klassik twice, the French Golden Diapason, and was nominated for Grammy Award. He will lead the choir, which has a history of more than 80 years and has recorded more than 75 albums.

"Also sprach Zarathustra" is the first concert of the 2024 music season of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be performed at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center Concert Hall on March 1. This concert is planned by the art director Zhang Yi. The entire concert will open with the overture of Pfitzner's theatrical soundtrack "The Little Kekin of Helblingen", which is first-time performed in China. The second work will be performed by the outstanding world-class cello soloist Qin Liwei , collaborating with the orchestra to perform Bloch's Hebrew Rhapsody 'Solomon'. This year also marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of the German composer Richard Strauss. The orchestra will perform the classic symphonic work "Also sprach Zarathustra", which was created by Richard Strauss based on the masterpiece by Nietzsche.

Ballet was born in France in the century of Louis XIV and began to develop in Bordeaux in the eighteenth century, progressively acquiring a prestigious and creative dimension. In the 1990s, the Ballet de l'Opéra de Bordeaux opened up its classical heritage to the modern era, working with many different choreographers. It now has nearly 40 dancers. The most popular and enduring musical of the 20th century, the Phantom of the Opera, comes to China, performed in English by a Western cast. The musical was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who wrote a string of hits including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats and Starlight Express. Phantom is based on a Gaston Leroux novel of 1911 about a beautiful soprano who becomes the obsession of a disfigured musical genius. It has been playing in London ever since it first opened in 1986, and on Broadway since 1988, and has been seen by millions of people in 145 countries. The original version is on a China tour and set to perform in Shanghai from August 27 until October 13. Ticketing coming soon in March.
